The stands at Barsapara Stadium are buzzing with anticipation, but amidst the sweltering humidity, one question dominates every tea-stall conversation: Will the rain play spoilsport? Over the past week, Guwahati’s weather has been temperamental—swinging from scorching sun to sudden downpours. With forecasts of thunderstorms on match day, cricket fans are on edge. Yet, beyond the threat of nature, a “royal” battle is capturing everyone’s imagination.

For the last decade, Sanju Samson was synonymous with the Rajasthan Royals. Today, he finds himself in the opposition dugout. As Sanju steps out in the iconic yellow of CSK, it’s hard to predict which way the crowd’s loyalty will lean. Fresh off a blistering T20 World Cup campaign, Samson arrives as Chennai’s ultimate trump card.
On the other side, the baton for Rajasthan has passed to the local hero, Riyan Parag. As a son of the soil, Riyan will be desperate to halt the Samson juggernaut in his own backyard and usher in a new era for the Royals.
The 2025 IPL season was nothing short of a nightmare for both franchises. With Chennai finishing at the bottom of the table and Rajasthan just a spot above them, today’s clash is more than just a game—it is a “Trial by Fire” for their redemption.
Chennai’s batting offers a potent blend of youth and experience. The wristy elegance of young Ayush Mhatre and the towering sixes of Shivam Dube will be tested by Rajasthan’s spin twins, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Bishnoi. Conversely, Rajasthan’s batting backbone—Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shimron Hetmyer—will have to negotiate the swing of Matt Henry and the mystery of Afghan wizard Noor Ahmad.
The biggest boost for the Rajasthan camp is the return of Jofra Archer’s raw pace. His “fireballs” are expected to give the CSK top order a tough time. However, Kiwi star Matt Henry is equally prepared to dismantle Rajasthan’s front line with the new ball.
Between Assam’s cloudy skies and the high-voltage drama on the pitch, Guwahati is braced for a breathtaking showdown. If the rain holds off, a storm of boundaries and wickets is almost guaranteed at Barsapara.
Will the galleries witness Riyan’s celebratory ‘Bihu’ dance, or will Samson’s tactical brilliance leave Rajasthan in the dust? Only time will tell.
