Earning a spot in Delhi’s cricket setup is nothing short of carving a path through solid rock! Rising star Sumit Mathur has solidified his place in the squad through relentless hard work and an unyielding appetite for tough challenges. Donning the iconic red jersey of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), the young sensation is now gearing up for the high-stakes battles ahead.
Facing the Heavyweight Bengal Challenge
A daunting task awaits Delhi in their upcoming fixture against a powerhouse Bengal Team boasting international-caliber pacers like Mohammed Shami, Akash Deep, and Mukesh Kumar, alongside a formidable batting lineup featuring Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sudip Gharami! But the young star remains completely unfazed.
When asked in an interview about the fierce competition and navigating the gritty grind of Delhi cricket, Sumit responded with a calm yet resolute voice – “Hard work is non-negotiable in every aspect of life. And without challenges, there’s no fun in living, nor is there any joy in playing! It’s the tough challenges that truly bring out the absolute best in a person.”
The interview revisited an unforgettable chapter from 2025—a memorable red-ball clash where kingpin Virat Kohli shared the dressing room and field as a teammate. Sumit announced his arrival in style by playing a sensational match-winning knock to seal a famous victory.
“Sharing the crease with him and getting the opportunity to speak with him boosted my confidence to a whole new level,” Sumit shared.
When questioned about the game plan against a team as consistent as Bengal, the rising all-rounder laid out a clear strategy – “Bengal is an exceptionally strong side—they consistently reach the finals and semifinals. Their pacers and batters are top-tier. However, instead of overthinking the opposition, we are focusing on our own unity and strengths. The energy in our training camp is phenomenal right now.”
The message from Delhi’s young prodigy is crystal clear: Sumit Mathur has his eyes set on one singular goal—stepping onto the field and leaving it all out in the middle!
