As the curtains went up on the 2026 IPL season, the cricketing world witnessed the rise of a modern-day fairy tale. Facing off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a stadium packed with superstars, it was a 24-year-old youngster who stole the limelight—Aniket Verma. When Sunrisers Hyderabad’s top order collapsed like a house of cards, this ‘Bhopal Boy’ stood tall, forging a gritty partnership with Ishan Kishan. In a breathtaking display of power-hitting, Aniket smashed 43 runs off just 18 balls. Peppered with 3 boundaries and 4 towering sixes, he sent a clear message: he didn’t just come here to play; he came to dominate.
Aniket’s path to glory was anything but a bed of roses. Born in Jhansi, his childhood was marred by the loss of his mother. After his father remarried, Aniket found himself virtually homeless until his uncle, Amit Verma, stepped in. At the time, Amit’s monthly income was a meager ₹3,000. Despite his financial struggles, Amit sacrificed his own needs to buy Aniket a pair of cricket shoes for ₹1,200. Today, Aniket has repaid that debt of gratitude by gifting his uncle high-end branded shoes with his first IPL paycheck.
At the age of 14, when Aniket was on the verge of giving up due to poverty, he heard the story of Hardik Pandya’s struggles. Learning how Pandya survived on Maggi for years while training relentlessly lit a fire in Aniket’s soul. From that moment on, the whining stopped and the grueling training sessions in the academies of Bhopal began.

The world first got a glimpse of Aniket’s ‘special’ talent back in 2021 during a divisional match. He sent shockwaves through the cricketing fraternity by scoring a monumental 407 runs in a single innings against Chambal. That historic knock included 41 fours and 16 sixes! He later continued this dominance in the Madhya Pradesh Premier League (MPL), boasting a lethal strike rate of 205.When Sunrisers Hyderabad called him for trials, he was set near-impossible targets. However, chasing down 65 runs in 6 overs or 85 runs in 8 overs was child’s play for Aniket. Since being picked up for ₹30 Lakhs, he has consistently repaid the franchise’s faith. Facing world-class bowlers like Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav with ice-cool composure has now become second nature to him.
“The cricketing community believes that this talent from the Bhopal Division Cricket Association (BDCA) is not just an asset for the IPL, but a strong contender for the Indian National Team in the near future.”
