Huge Blow Ahead of WPL 2026!Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland Withdraw Citing Personal Reasons

Just days before the kickoff of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, two major franchises have been dealt a massive blow. Australian superstars Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland have officially withdrawn from the upcoming season, citing personal reasons.
RCB Loses Their Ultimate Match-Winner
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) camp is reeling from the loss of Ellyse Perry—the backbone of their squad. For RCB, Perry has been the embodiment of consistency and match-winning prowess.

  • 2024 Brilliance: Perry clinched the Orange Cap, amassing 347 runs in 9 matches at a staggering average of 69.40, while also chipping in with 7 wickets. It was this legendary performance that propelled RCB to their maiden WPL title.
  • 2025 Form: Even in a season plagued by team injuries, she stood tall with 372 runs in 8 matches, including four half-centuries.
Recognizing her value, RCB had retained her for ₹2 crore. In her absence, the franchise has signed Sayali Satghare for ₹30 lakh.

Delhi Capitals Seek Stability After Sutherland’s Exit
The Delhi Capitals (DC) have also suffered a setback with the departure of Annabel Sutherland. A vital cog in DC’s journey to the finals, Sutherland’s impact was undeniable:

  • Stats: She claimed 9 wickets with an impressive economy rate of just 7.57.
  • Replacement: After retaining her for ₹2.2 crore, DC has now brought in experienced Australian leg-spinner Alana King for ₹60 lakh. King, who previously played for UP Warriorz, boasts 27 wickets in 27 T20Is.
Changes in the UP Warriorz Camp
In another roster update, Tara Norris (USA) has been selected for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Nepal (scheduled for January 18 – February 1). To fill her spot, the UP Warriorz have recruited uncapped Australian all-rounder Charli Knott for ₹10 lakh.
    The Countdown Begins
With WPL 2026 less than a week away, the excitement is reaching a fever pitch. The season opener is set for January 9 in Navi Mumbai, featuring a blockbuster clash:

    However, two burning questions remain:
  1. Can RCB maintain their dominance without the legendary Ellyse Perry?
  2. Will the Delhi Capitals be able to fill the void left by Sutherland?
