Gujarat Titans secured a commanding victory after clinical execution crushed the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Deciding to bowl first after winning the toss, Gujarat entered the fray with high spirits following their recent win against Delhi. Lucknow, on the other hand, arrived with momentum of their own after defeating KKR in an away fixture—a match that unearthed a new hero in Mukul Choudhary.

The First Innings: Lucknow Falters
Lucknow’s innings struggled to gain traction from the start. A steady collapse of wickets saw their situation go from bad to worse. Aside from Aiden Markram, who played a brisk knock of 30 runs off 21 balls, the batting lineup failed to deliver. Nicholas Pooran once again disappointed, failing to make an impact when it mattered most.

The star of the show with the ball was undoubtedly Prasidh Krishna. He dismantled the LSG lineup, claiming 4 crucial wickets while conceding a mere 28 runs in his four-over spell. Mohammed Siraj provided excellent support, bowling with pinpoint accuracy to finish with figures of 0/19 from his four overs. It was a tough day at the office, however, for Kagiso Rabada, who proved expensive by leaking 54 runs in his spell. By the end of the 20 overs, Lucknow managed a modest total of 164/8.

The Chase: Clinical Gujarat
Chasing 165, Gujarat openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan looked solid until Sudharsan fell to the bowling of Digvesh Rathi. This brought Jos Buttler to the crease at number three. Despite a recent slump in form, Buttler looked rejuvenated following a strong performance in his previous outing against Delhi.

Gill and Buttler orchestrated a masterclass in aggressive batting, stitching together a vital 84-run partnership. Gill anchored the innings with 56 off 40 balls, while Buttler blazed his way to 60 off just 37 deliveries. Following their departure, Washington Sundar and Rahul Tewatia applied the finishing touches, guiding Gujarat to a 7-wicket victory with 8 balls to spare.

Analysis: Where did LSG lose the plot?
The primary reason for Lucknow’s downfall was the top-order collapse, which put them on the back foot immediately.
• Leadership Struggle: Captain Rishabh Pant failed to take responsibility, falling early as LSG lost two wickets within the Powerplay.
• Middle-Order Inexperience: While the likes of Badoni, Mukul Choudhary, and Abdul Samad provide spark, the team lacked an experienced anchor to stabilize the innings during the collapse.
• The Pooran Conundrum: Much has been said about Nicholas Pooran, who famously retired from international cricket to focus on the global franchise circuit. Despite that commitment, his inability to produce big scores in these very tournaments is becoming a major concern for the team.
Ultimately, a combination of poor shot selection and a clinical Gujarat bowling attack led to Lucknow’s disappointing defeat on their home turf.
